Our September dinner meeting had as our guest speaker a visitor from across the pond, from South Carolina, Buddy Owen.
Buddy , who is the leader of Hoylake Chapel, told his story in a very unusual way, by taking a series of objects from a carrier bag and speaking how they relate to his life.
The first item out of the bag was a Nike trainer, we were then informed that Nike first used the slogan 'Just Do It' in 1972, the year of Buddy's birth. We then progressed to a Bible, (remember, no long bible readings allowed or aloud). This referred to the fact that Buddy became a Christian at a very early age. Several more objects were taken from the bag to illustrate events in Buddy's life, but for me the highlight was an explanation of being at one with God.
Buddy went on to explain that we all have dreams. As an exercise we were asked to close our eyes and imagine our dreams as real as possible. He then told us that we were made for a purpose, when the dream and God's purpose come together we are in THAT place. At the end of his story Buddy closed with a prayer and a call for those who do not have that special relationship with God to put that right. With 32 in attendance, it was not the largest meeting we have had, but speaking to the guests I found that they all had enjoyed their meal and Buddy's story.
